After High School, Most Lose Access to Fitness. That Ends Now.
Think of someone you know with a disability. A family member, a friend, anyone. Now ask yourself: are you 100% certain they go to a fitness program?
The reality is, most states in America don't have a state-funded fitness program for individuals with disabilities once they turn 21. After high school, many lose access to structured PE class, which detrimentally impacts their life quality and longevity.
What People Assume
  • Fitness programs exist for everyone
  • Support continues after age 21
  • Health stays consistent over time
What Actually Happens
  • Programs disappear after high school
  • No structured fitness access
  • Health declines without activity
  • Community connection is lost

Built by People Who Care
Owen Mathias
Founder of Hardbat Athletics Adaptive Athlete and Fitness Program
For my entire life, I’ve worked alongside individuals with disabilities, helping them build strength and confidence through adaptive fitness. Not through quick fixes or generic programs, but through intentional, individualized training that supports long-term growth.
I’ve worked hands-on with individuals across a wide range of abilities, adapting movement, communication, and coaching to fit each athlete. More importantly, I’ve watched athletes discover confidence, independence, and strength that extends far beyond the gym.
Through a lifetime of involvement in Special Olympics and the disability community, I recognized a critical gap—athletes with disabilities who thrive on connection and movement but lack access to consistent, high-quality fitness programming. This program was built to change that.

What Our Athletes Say
Program Parent
"Josh loves coming to the gym. From the first day of the week, he’s asking what day he gets to go, and he looks forward to it every single time. It’s become something he genuinely enjoys."
Family Member
"Since starting the program, I’ve noticed less anxious energy. He used to pace a lot more, and now he’s calmer. Emotionally, physically, and socially—it’s helped in all three ways."
Parent of Athlete
"Owen is a great trainer and incredibly creative. He uses fidgets, checklists, and different strategies to help Josh stay engaged. Josh feels supported here, and I would highly recommend this program to other families."
Frequently Asked Questions
We know you have questions. Here are the answers to the most common ones we hear. If you don't see your question here, reach out to us directly—we're here to help.
What types of disabilities do you work with?
We work with a wide range of disabilities including intellectual disabilities, physical disabilities, developmental disabilities, and adaptive needs. Every program is customized to the individual athlete, so we meet you exactly where you are and build from there.

Do I need any prior fitness experience?
Absolutely not. This program is designed for all experience levels. Whether you've never trained before or you have some experience, we'll build a program that works for you. We start where you are and progress at your pace.

How do you ensure safety during training?
Safety is our top priority. Every coach is trained in adaptive fitness techniques and works closely with you to understand any accommodations you need. We modify exercises as needed, use appropriate equipment, and never push beyond what's safe for your body.

What's the difference between private, small group, and large group options?
Private coaching gives you 1:1 attention and a fully customized experience. Small groups (2-4 athletes) provide personalized coaching with some social interaction. Large group classes emphasize community and social connection while still providing quality coaching. We'll help you choose what's best for your goals and comfort level.

How often are the nutrition check-ins?
Every athlete gets nutrition and lifestyle check-ins every 90 days. These sessions review your eating habits, energy levels, sleep, and overall wellness. We provide education and guidance to help you fuel your body properly for training and life.
